24-Hour Blood Pressure Monitoring
During 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, also known as ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) or Holter blood pressure monitoring, blood pressure is recorded at regular intervals over a 24-hour period using a cuff placed on the upper arm.
The examination provides accurate information about blood pressure fluctuations at different times of the day and in various situations. It is necessary in cases of elevated blood pressure readings to confirm or rule out hypertension, as well as to evaluate treatment results in patients with previously diagnosed hypertension.
The examination lasts 24 hours.
A blood pressure cuff is placed on the upper arm, and a small device that records the data is attached to the body. These are removed at the clinic the following day. Please do not remove the device yourself. After the device is fitted, the patient may go home and continue with daily activities. A diary is provided, in which the patient should record all activities and how they feel during the monitoring period.
Referral for 24-hour blood pressure monitoring is provided by a doctor.
